As Nina Simone passed away this week, I felt obligated to play a couple of her songs in honor of her amazing career and impact on the world. I started off with the Tomas Diablo track "Shadow Lover", which samples "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair", and blended it into the original Nina Simone piece. I also finished my set with one of my favorite Nina Simone songs - "Work Song".
By layering the manic drums of Meat Beat Manifesto’s "Long Periods of Time" on top of the sleepy and disturbed "That’s What I Get", I gave the track a whole new energy. Well - I was really happy with it anyway. I was also fond of the Rockwell/New Order/Grantby transition, which earned some cheers from the bar.
